Can These Bones Live?
Using the powerful imagery from Ezekiel 37, the valley of the dry bones, Kevass Harding tells how God used a faithful few to breathe new life into a dying church and transform a congregation and a community, growing from 25 members to more than 600 members in just six years. Kevass Harding refuses to accept “But we’re just a small church” as an excuse for not doing effective ministry. Within four months of his 1998 arrival at Dellrose United Methodist Church in Wichita, Kansas, all but 25 of the original 131 members had left in protest over the new pastor’s call for the congregation to better reach its community. Not only has the church growing numerically, but it has also grown spiritually and financially. Harding attributes the growth of the church to dynamic teaching, fellowship, praise and worship, and to the fact that Dellrose is a place where everyone will feel the love of God, find the joy of Christ, and experience the power of the Holy Spirit.

God In Her Midst
People come to church seeking comfort, encouragement, empowerment, and liberation. Preachers are under a divine imperative to provide a word that will minister all those things-to all people and especially to the least of these. Author and pastor Elaine Flake seizes that imperative and crafts a womanist theology and praxis of preaching to the population most overlooked and overwhelmed in our pews: wounded women-those who are wounded by virtue of their gender and more particularly black women who are also wounded by virtue of their race.

Swapping Housewives
Modeled after McKenzie's successful Journey to the Well, Swapping Housewives is a retelling of the well-known story of the relationship of Rachel, Jacob and Leah found in Genesis 29-30. McKenzie asserts that this ancient Bible story presents relationship issues that parallel many modern-dat ones - man-sharing, wife-swapping, manipulating children for the affections of a spouse, betrayal, rejection and sibling rivalry-and that, by studying this story, we can learn much about our own relationships. Each chapter concludes with a Relationship First Aid Kit, Relationship Rules, Rules of the Road, study questions, scriptures, and daily meditations to help with your relationship issues.

Dancing with God
Dancing With God is an exploration of the divine gifts of courage and grace in the face of evil. Moreover, it is a doctrine of God as the source of that courage. Baker-Fletcher presents an understanding of the work of the Trinity with regard to the problem of crucifixion, a metaphor she uses for unnecessary violence. She develops a process-relational, womanist theology that considers the empathetic omnipresence of God in the midst of unnecessary suffering and the healing power of God in movement of the Holy Spirit.

Touch: The Power of Touch in Transforming Lives

Jesus praised His followers who reached out to help those who were hungry, thirsty, naked, sick or in prison. In fact, He told them, "Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you have done it to one the least of these My brethren, you have done it to Me." When we think of reaching out to desperately needy people - such as addicts, homeless people, and those who suffer mental illness - many of us wonder, What would happen if I reached out to touch that person? What would people think of me? What if that person robbed me? What if he became dependent on me and took up too much of my time?

Amazing Grace
Amazing Grace tells the story of the remarkable life of the British abolitionist William Wilberforce (1759-1833). This accessible biography chronicles Wilberforce's extraordinary role as a human rights activist, cultural reformer, and member of Parliament. At the center of this heroic life was a passionate twenty-year fight to abolish the British slave trade, a battle Wilberforce won in 1807, as well as efforts to abolish slavery itself in the British colonies, a victory achieved just three days before his death in 1833. This account of Wilberforce's life will help many become acquainted with an exceptional man who was a hero to Abraham Lincoln and an inspiration to the anti-slavery movement in America.

Crisis in the Village
Robert M. Franklin provides first-person advice and insight as he identifies the crises resident within three anchor institutions that have played key roles in the black struggle for freedom. Black families face a "crisis of commitment" evident in the rising rates of father absence, births to unmarried parents, divorce, and domestic abuse or relationship violence. Black churches face a "mission crisis" as they struggle to serve their upwardly mobile and/or established middle class "paying customers" alongside the poorest of the poor.
